Details of Google-owner Alphabet’s Health watch revealed

NEW DELHI: Most of us have heard about the Android Wear platform and different OEMs associated to it. Now, it seems like Google's parent company Alphabet is planning to enter into the smartwatch segment as well.

As per MIT Review website, Alphabet is reportedly working on a 'Health watch'. It's also mentioned that the company has already made 'more than hundreds' of prototypes.

The aforementioned prototypes and Health watch are made by Verily Life Sciences, a division that falls under Alphabet Inc's umbrella. The watch is expected to combine 'sensors, software, and science' to measure diseases and help users control it.

The Health watch wearable, as mentioned in the report, is seen in Brass-coloured analogue casing without any buttons. Brian Otis, head of Verily Life Sciences, called the device a 'Cardiac and Activity Monitor'. The report further mentions that Health watch features an e-ink paper-white circular display.

For those unaware, e-ink paper technology uses less power as compared to regular displays. It's used in e-readers like Amazon Kindle. An e-ink display for the rumoured Health watch would certainly mean better battery life.

"If people are going to wear this you can't charge it every day; that just isn't going to work," said Otis. "The big push now is low power," he further added. In one of the prototype watches, Verily confirmed that the outer dial measures user's electrocardiogram (ECG), something we might see in the end product. It is also said to have heart rate sensors placed on the underside of the watch.
