Here’s Why The Upcoming Greenfield Airports Could Be Good News For Andhra Pradesh!
A Few days back, the center gave the go ahead for 4 new ‘Greenfield Airports’ in the country. 3 out of these 4 airports will be built in Andhra Pradesh. The secretary of Civi Aviation (MoCA), who heads the steering committe of the greenfield project, gave an ‘in-principle’ approval for 3 new airports in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed greenfield airports will comes up at Bhogapuram (Vizianagaram), Dagadarthi (Nellore) and Orvakallu (Kurnool). The Bhogapuram will be an international airport, whereas the other two will be simple ‘no frills’ domestic airports.
The cost of building the Bhogapuram international airport will be an estimated Rs 2,200 crores and it will aim to cater to about 6.3 million passengers annually. The Dadagarthi airport will be developed under the Public-Private partnership mode, while the Oravakallu airport will be built entirely by the state. Both at an estimated cost-to-state of Rs 88 crore. The steering committe is even said to have sent recommendations to develop a greenfield airport in Telangana as weell.
What Is A Greenfield Airport?
A Greenfield airport is nothing but a brand new airport built from scratch on an undeveloped site. This means that it has no constraints with respect to ongoing work or existing infrastructure even. Usually, the term Greenfield denotes upcoming projects in new locations.
What Does It Mean For The State?
Airports provide essential connectivity to passengers and cargo alike. Distributing the logistics among different airports can only help speed the economic process. The increased amount of linkages trigger economic growth and boost the financial situation of the state greatly. These 3 new airports will ensure that Andhra Pradesh becomes a hot-bed of investments in the civil-aviation industry. Pretty soon, these airports will be buzzing with activity and bringing forth a great financial stability to the region.
