Google Pixel smartphones will be water-resistant, but with a lower-rating: Report
Google Pixel and Pixel XL will come with IP53 rating, which make the devices dust resistant and water resistant as well, but only up to a certain angle.
Google’s Pixel smartphones will be water-resistant but with a lower-rating, according to latest report in Android Police. The website says the Pixel and Pixel XL will come with IP53 rating, which make the devices dust resistant and water resistant as well, but only up to a certain angle. This means the smartphones will be able to survive very low pressure of water only when held vertically up to 60 degrees. This allows water droplets to slide down the smartphone’s surface. Plus, the device can’t be exposed to water for more than 5 minutes.
The reports explains, “The “3” in IP53 means a device will not experience damaging water ingress when upright at an angle not to exceed 60 degrees from vertical while being sprayed by relatively low-pressure (somewhere between 7-20PSI or 50 to 150kPa) water.” This might be a big let down for customers, especially when Pixel smartphones are being touted as competitors to Apple iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 series. The iPhone 7 has IP67 rating, while the Samsung Galaxy S7 series also has the same rating.
