Solid Explorer 2.2: Now with file encryption, fingerprint and multi-window support

Solid Explorer follows up on its act with version 2.2 that has just been released on the Google Play Store, and among its biggest new features are file encryption (a.k.a. “porn mode”), fingerprint support, and multi-window support.
If you are a power user, the stock file manager on Android is not going to cut the mustard, and you’ll probably appreciate what Solid Explorer 2.2 is able to deliver.

Current beta testers will probably notice that everything has remained the same, save for a few bug fixes.
On to one of the two main new features: file encryption. Otherwise known as “porn mode,” this feature works differently depending on whether it’s catering for multiple or single files.
Multiple files will be sent over to a folder that carries the .sec extension, with all of its content (names included) encrypted via strong AES256 algorithm.
On paper, this would make these encrypted files unreadable unless Solid Explorer is used. The inevitable weak link in the strong chain? The right password will allow you to browse through encrypted content normally, in addition to being able to play music and videos and view photos.
As for single files, the names of these files will remain intact, save for the inclusion of a .sec extension.
With fingerprint sensors becoming the norm these days, Solid Explorer 2.2 impresses further with its fingerprint support, letting you open encrypted files sans a password. This will also work for accessing cloud storage (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, OneDrive, Mega, and Owncloud). This feature will work as long as the “Use fingerprint” checkbox is checked.
Other features of Solid Explorer 2.2 include multi-window support on Android 7.0 Nougat, an automatic day/night theme, a master password reset timer, improved Image Viewer performance, an integrated image viewer and music player, and being able to open tgz files. In fact, your content can even be cast to Chromecast.

Solid Explorer 2.2 is available on a 14-day trial, after which you will need to pay for the full version to use all the features. Regular Android users would probably give this a miss, but if you prefer to ensure that all possible security avenues are covered on your Android-powered device, investing a little bit in Solid Explorer 2.2 is a no-brainer.
