Xiaomi finally launches Mi Band 2 in India; also its first smart home product, the Mi Air Purifier 2

The Mi Band 2 is a major upgrade over its predecessors – both in terms of design as well as features. It now features an OLED display and sports an anodized physical button that lets you toggle between different modes. The company claims that even with the OLED display, Mi Band 2 delivers a battery life of up to 20 days on a single charge. Also, the Mi Band 2 boasts of an optical heart-rate sensor.
Just like the Mi Band, the Mi Band 2 is water resistant too. It is IP67 splash resistant and sports a hypo-allergic silicone band that can be worn almost all the time.
The Mi Band 2, of course, works with the Mi Fit Android app (also available for iOS). The app shows in-depth activity and sleep statistics, and allows users to manage alarms and configure incoming calls and app alerts. The Mi Band 2 also allows users to unlock their smartphones (Android 5.0 or later) instantly by holding it close.
Priced at an affordable ₹1,999 ($30), the Mi Band 2 will be available on Mi.com from September 27 as well as exclusively on Amazon.in from September 30.
For Xiaomi though, the big launch of the day was the Mi Air Purifier 2, their very first smart home product in India. The first Mi Air Purifier was launched in China in December 2014 and the successor debuted a year later.
The launch comes amid rising concerns over alarming pollution levels across many cities of the country, and the company is looking to play a part in increasing awareness about air pollution. To this end, Xiaomi has also become the first smartphone brand in India to integrate Air Quality Index (AQI) data into its MIUI 8 Weather app.
Mi Air Purifier 2 quickly removes PM2.5 particles, dust, indoor plant pollen, pet fur, and more. The 360° cylindrical filter on Mi Air Purifier 2 takes in air more efficiently from every direction compared to conventional air purifiers. With its high 310m3/h CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), Xiaomi claims that the air purifier takes just 10 minutes to circulate purified air in a room.
Like all Mi Ecosystem products, Mi Air Purifier 2 is an intelligent product that connects to the cloud via Wi-Fi, enabled by the Mi Smart Home app. The app is a central hub for a range of smart appliances from Mi Ecosystem and other third-party companies.
Priced at ₹9,999 ($150), the Mi Air Purifier 2 will be available on Mi.com starting September 26 at 12 PM, and will be exclusively on Flipkart from October 2. Each filter will last up to six months depending on your usage, and a replacement filter will set you back by ₹2,499.
